LTO-7 grants 60 days extension for renewals

CEBU, Philippines — A 60-day extension was granted by the Land Transportation Office-7 for those whose driver’s license expired during the lockdown period to renew their licenses.

The one month extension shall be reckoned from the date the LTO-7 offices have resumed operations. LTO-7 director Victor Caindec, however, said a staggered schedule will be observed in accepting applications for renewal of licenses and vehicle registrations to avoid overcrowding and maintain social distancing.

Caindec explained that they have to limit the number of people going to their offices to be able to implement the health protocols required because of the continuing threat of the COVID-19.

The LTO-7 offices in Cebu City --- Mega Licensing Center at Seaview Wing of SM Seaside City, Cebu City District Office at N. Bacalso Ave., Cebu City, Driver’s License Renewal Office (DLRO) Robinsons Fuente and DLRO SM City Cebu—have resumed operations yesterday.

The LTO Mandaue City Licensing Center and Mandaue City District Office at J. Centre Mall, and Motor Vehicle Inspection Center (MVIC) at M. Logarta St., Subangdaku, Mandaue City reopened last Wednesday.

The schedule for accepting applications of renewal of expired registrations and licenses will be as follows:

* For the cities of Cebu and Mandaue, the processing of vehicles with plates ending number 3 and for registered vehicles without plates with conduction sticker ending 3 will be on June 1-11.

* Vehicles with plates or conduction sticker ending 4 are scheduled for processing from June 15-26.

*Those with plates or conduction sticker ending 5 will be given priority on June 29 to July 10.

The LTO-7 Danao City district office, Medellin district office, Toledo City licensing center (Balamban), Carcar City district office, Lapulapu City district office and Lapulapu City licensing center at Island City Mall, which opened on May 20, also followed a staggered schedule.

In these six LTO offices, the renewal of expired registrations and with conduction sticker ending 3 was on May 20-29. Those ending in 4 would be processed from June 1-19 while the processing for those ending in 5 will be from June 22 to July 10.

Meanwhile, those who were issued temporary operators permit (TOP) can now claim their license at the LTO-7 regional office along N. Bacalso Avenue.

According to Caindec, he had requested for an extension of the required period to redeem the confiscated licenses. Based on the guidelines, drivers are given 72 hours or three days to redeem their license and pay the corresponding penalties.

To avail of the LTO services, one has to bring complete documentary requirements for their transaction and upon arrival at the LTO office, get a priority number for the public assistance complaint desk, and wait for their name or number to be called.  FPL (FREEMAN)
