CEBU, Philippines — As the coronavirus disease (COVID-19) pandemic continues to spread, so as the donations coming from the private sector.
The Cebu Filipino-Chinese community, which organized a group dubbed as “Laban Cebu,” continues to donate tons of rice to the different local government units in Cebu like in the cities of Mandaue (200 sacks of rice), Cebu (300 sacks of rice) and Lapu-Lapu (200 sacks of rice) as well as the Province of Cebu (200 sacks of rice) last May 28.
The group also donated 50 sacks of rice, 100 Gallons of 70% ethyl alcohol and 5,000 surgical face masks to both the police offices of the cities of Cebu and Mandaue.
The Police Regional Office-7 also received 40 sacks of rice, 40 gallons of alcohol, 4,000 surgical masks and 2,000 washable masks.
Laban Cebu is the task force of the Cebu Filipino-Chinese community composed of the Cebu Filipino-Chinese Chamber of Commerce, Cebu Filipino-Chinese Amity Club, Inc., Cebu Laman Chamber of Commerce and Cebu Hong Kong Chamber of Commerce.
Last month, the group also donated masks, 70% and 80% alcohol, coats and other protective gears to the frontliners in the cities and hospitals of Mandaue, Cebu and Lapu-Lapu as well as the Vicente Sotto Memorial Medical Center, Philippine National Police-7 and at the Sacred Heart Boys High complex used as a quarantine center.
Meanwhile, the Zonta Club of Cebu II, in collaboration with Mind Bloom, an organization composed of teachers and educators, fabricated and distributed 50 sets of communication boards to the different health centers and hospitals of Lapu-Lapu City.
These communication boards are composed of pictures and illustrations which can be used by nurses and health care providers to communicate with COVID-19 patients who are unable to express and verbalize to their medical team how they feel or what they need to keep them comfortable.
Zonta II is hopeful that these boards will never be used by anyone, but it is imperative to look ahead to provide these when necessary to patients who may suffer the worst effects of the virus.
Lapu-Lapu City Mayor Junard ‘Ahong’ Chan, together with City Legal Officer Atty. Allan James Sayson, personally received the communication boards during the formal turn-over recently.
