Cops seize P1.4 million marijuana

CEBU, Philippines — Marijuana plants worth at least P1.4 million were confiscated by the police in a series of operations that resulted in the arrest of five suspected cultivators in Toledo City over the weekend.

The suspects were identified as Jimm Magbanua Zosa, Panfilo Advina Labiste, Avelino Cañar Allecer, Sr., Amir Allecer Llaguno, and Pedro Laña Allecer. Joint operatives of the 2nd Provincial Mobile Force Company and the Toledo City Police Station conducted three marijuana eradication operations in Barangays Panggamihan and Captain Claudio on April 4 and 5.

The series of operations yielded 1,000 grams of dried marijuana leaves with an estimated value of P1.4 million and uprooted 3,500 stalks of marijuana plants. Five suspects were arrested but one Gabriel Laña Allecer eluded arrest.

Police Regional Office-7 director Brigadier General Albert Ignatius Ferro commended the 2ndPMFC and the Toledo City Police Station for their continued anti-drug efforts despite the ongoing deployment for the enhanced community quarantine. Ferro said the two units will be properly recognized for their accomplishment.

Meanwhile, police shot dead Sunday evening a wanted person in Sitio Latasan, Barangay Labogon, Mandaue City.

The suspect, Allan Ouano, was wanted for murder and frustrated murder.

Initial investigation revealed that Ouano was reported by a concerned citizen to the police for bringing a firearm. A team was immediately deployed to verify the reported presence of armed person but the suspect allegedly fired at the responding policemen.

A shootout ensued resulting in the death of the suspect. The police later found out that the suspect was among the most wanted persons in the region.  FPL (FREEMAN)
