CEBU, Philippines — The Metropolitan Cebu Water District (MCWD) has deployed 27 mobile water suppliers around Cebu City.

MCWD Chairman Jose Daluz III said that this project is joint activity between MCWD and Cebu City.

Daluz said that the mobile water supply will help those areas that have limited water supply, since the source in the area was suspended.

“Atong ning patubig project sa MCWD together with Cebu City kay kabalo ta na naglisod man gyud ang tubig ron kay naay areas na suspended ang atong paghatag og tubig.  So, silay mauna nato nga pahatdan og tubig,” said Daluz.

He added that the trucks consist of tankers, while the rest are rented trucks with improvised water tanks. The trucks can carry from 1,000 liters to 6,000 liters of water.

Engineer Edgar Ortega, MCWD assistant general manager for operations, said there are areas in the cities of Cebu, Talisay, Mandaue and Lapu-Lapu that they would be serving.

“Naa may listing sa mga low pressure sa water labi na ang among source sa Jaclupan kay nagkaubos iyahang production.  Expected ni siya na kaning mga areas sa central sa uptown and downtown murag padulong na ni siya pagkawa ang agas,” said Ortega.

He said that these areas will be served every day and the water will come from the hydrants to be distributed to the people.

“Mao ni na naa ta aning mobile water supply para mapaabot nato ang tubig sa mga katawhan labi na karon na kailangan nato mag-sanitize sa atong kaugalingon pinaagi sa tubig,” said Ortega.

He said that the current water supply is 215,000 cubic meters per day. In Jaclupan, it can generate 24,000 cubic meters, which used to produce about 25,000 cubic meters of water.

The facility’s normal production would range from 30,000 to 33,000 cubic meters a day.

He said that the MCWD is sustaining as much water supply as possible, especially since the summer season is approaching.

He added that the effects of the El Niño felt last year is still being felt at the moment.

“So far ang effect sa El Niño kay nasinati gihapon karon.  So, ang ato nalang diri kay ang pag-manage nato sa supply,” said Ortega.

The delivery of the water supply starts at 6 a.m. to 10 p.m.  GAN (FREEMAN)
