CEBU, Philippines — The Cebu City Transportation Office (CCTO) has requested the Visayan Electric (formerly VECO) to remove posts that are obstructing the flow of traffic and pose danger to the motorists.
The CCTO has been conducting inspections on roads that were widened after the city’s clearing activities, and have found the Visayan Electric posts that are still standing along the main road.
This is in line with the directive of the President through the DILG Memorandum No. 2019-121 dated July 29, 2019 on the clearing of roads on illegal structures and obstruction.
In a letter from Alma Casimero, CCTO officer in charge to engineer Daryl Bonbon, manager-customer retail services division of Visayan Electric on February 4, the CCTO is requesting for their office to remove or relocate the reported concrete posts.
Lawyer Rey Gealon, executive director for traffic operations, said that the removal of these posts must be prioritized, especially in the context of traffic management.
“With these posts removed, one lane of these widened roads would be rendered serviceable,” said Gealon.
He added that with the removal of these posts, it will give more space for additional lanes which would mean better traffic flow.
“We are appealing to VECO to remove them without delay,” said Gealon.
The VECO electric posts are located along S. Osmeña street from Palma street; one fronting Ceniza Trading; five posts in DPWH; two in Modern metal; 99 RCA Car Repair; two in SNR. Sto. Niño; five posts at the Gothong Container Yard; four posts on a vacant lot; and a residential house.
The CCTO said that aside from the posts obstructing the traffic flow, it also poses danger to the motorists passing along the area. (FREEMAN)
