CEBU, Philippines — The Cebu City Market Authority Division assured that there is enough supply of goods for the holidays despite the ban on pork products coming from Luzon and the fishing ban in the Visayas Sea.

Carbon market is the oldest and biggest farmer’s market in the city. It does not only supply fresh products to the cities and province of Cebu but also to the neighboring provinces, such as Leyte and Bohol.

Jonil Matuguina, city markets administrator, assured that despite Carbon market supplying products to other places, there is more than enough for the residents of Cebu for this Christmas.

“As usual dako kaayo ang impact sa Carbon kay sila gyud mag supply sa tibuok province sa Cebu, apil na sa uban pa nga mga province, rest assured na the market and as well as the vendors are working hand in hand para mahatag nato ang presko ug affordable na mga produkto,” said Matuguina.

As Carbon market is known for the fresh produce of meat, fish, vegetables, fruits and other kinds of products, there is a need for close monitoring to regulate the prices especially this coming holiday season.

Matuguina said that they have been monitoring the stores to make sure that the prices of the products follows the approved retail price set by the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) and to closely keep track of the number of supply of the products.

“The market office kay sige monitor anang mga defective, mga wala’y sticker na mga timbangan, para ma ensure nato sa publiko na sakto gayud ang ilang nakuha ug palit sa atong market,” said Matuguina.

The market authority division, together with the Department of Veterinary Medicine and Fisheries (DVMF), are still closely monitoring the pantry of meat products to ensure that the meat in the city are free from African Swine Fever (ASF).

“Maayo raman, maayo ra, luwas ta sa ASF. We are working hand in hand with the DVMF in monitoring the meat products labi na ang pork. Sa vegetables wala’y pagkulang sa supply. Wala’y pagkulang para sa Noche Buena,” said Matuguina.

The market authority division is inviting the public to visit the Carbon market to support the local vendors and suppliers for the coming holidays. JMD (FREEMAN)
