CEBU, Philippines — To fill the gap between the community and the law enforcers, a policeman manning traffic in one of the busiest downtown streets chose to entertain motorists by dancing even without music.
Police Corporal Ronilo Ortega Dignos, also called as “the dancing cop” by motorists who saw him last Monday, considers his dancing to direct traffic in Colon Street as something like a sports performance.
Dignos, who has been in the Traffic Patrol Group since 2017, said it is his first time dancing while manning a busy street.
He said the smiles and laughter of the motorists kept him going.
“Paugnat sa kusog, malingaw ka man sa traffic kay naay driver sa motor and taxi muabiba,” he said.
There is a video of him which made rounds online, already garnering more than 10,000 worth of views in less than 24 hours since it was posted.
New Cebu City Police Office director, Police Colonel Gemma Vinluan, was not one to miss the viral video.
Vinluan said she called Dignos to her office to express her elation with what he is doing.
She said that his performance is one way to bring law enforcers closer to the community and makes it easier for people not to hesitate to ask for help from the police.
She said that she provided Dignos an incentive by giving him cash to buy a music player to listen to while he dances.
Vinluan said that the dancing policeman may not be alone for long, as she and CCPO Traffic Patrol Group Chief, Major Allan Rosario, plan to encourage the others to follow Dignos.
“Ang pulis sa Cebu City, nakakapagpasaya and hindi yan madali kapag may maiinit ang ulo. Ang galing kumendeng,” she said. (FREEMAN)
