CEBU, Philippines — Forty-nine candidates of the Renaissance Cebuana will proceed to the next round after conquering the quiz bee competition held last Saturday.

In the rationale, the organizers explained that the quiz bee round was designed to test the intelligence of the candidates.

The first phase was questions with multiple choices, which tested the general knowledge of the candidates.

The second phase was an open-ended question and answer portion with a panel of judges to test further the personality and spontaneity of the ladies.

Vice Governor Agnes Magpale said that there were 757 runners who joined the marathon held in June. It served as the round one of the competition which highlighted the athletic side of the female contenders.

From 757, it was trimmed down to 106 participants. After the quiz bee, it was further trimmed down to 49 candidates.

In the next level, each of the 49 will have a video interview subject for online voting. Only the top 35 will proceed to the semifinals.

After that, 15 finalists will be chosen who will showcase their talent before the coronation night.

"A real Cebuana should be an embodiment of everything, not only her body and face," the vice governor remarked.

Renaissance Cebuana is a search of the provincial government for the one who will become an ambassadress of the Provincial Women's Commission (PWC). The search is open to any Cebuana aged 18-30 years old and a resident of Cebu Province.

The competition seeks to test three As which stand for Athletic, Academic, and Artistic skills of a candidate.

Aside from becoming an ambassadress, the winner will receive P100,000 and a free international trip.

The search by the Capitol is in cooperation with PWC, Cebu Provincial Sports Commission (PSC), Ng Khai Development Corporation and the Cebu Chamber of Commerce and Industry.

According to PWC head Hedda Largo, the local government units from north to south are well-represented except for those in the islands. —/MBG (FREEMAN)
