7 Cebu grads top nursing exams

May B. Miasco - The Freeman

CEBU, Philippines — A 22-year-old girl who admitted she was not really sure of the course she is pursuing ranked third in the recent licensure examination for nurses.

Frances Isabela Seno finished her BS Nursing course at Velez College. She is one of the seven Cebu graduates who made it to the top 10 in the 2018 Nursing Licensure Examination.

She registered a rating of 87 percent.

“I was shocked. Topping the exam was not really a goal though I was hoping,” said Seno.

Seno, from Mandaue City, recalled she never had an ambition in mind since her childhood and she had been considering different careers.

She opted to take up BS Nursing and later on learned to love the course.

Seno graduated Cum Laude last March 23 from Velez College.

She was also a consistent academic awardee during her elementary and high school years.

“Everything I do, I do it for my family. I want to do my best for them. They worked hard for me so I want to give back,” she said over phone interview with The FREEMAN.

She said she prepared for two months, studying in a review center before the examinations.  She also joined group study sessions with her friends.

For now, she has no specific plan as to her next step and she keeps her options open, either to stay in Cebu or work abroad.

Aside from Seno, another graduate from Velez College, Aleksander Joel Yared, ranked 10th with a rating of 85.4 percent.

There were also three graduates from Cebu Normal University who made it to the top 10.  They are Honey Sheen Bangquaio (8th) with a rating of 85.8; Athena Louise Mangoroban (9th) with a rating of 85.6; and Jessa Marie Menor (10th) with a rating of 85.4 percent.

The other two graduates are from Cebu Doctors' University.  They are  Dexter Redd Gomez (9th) and Dianne Therese Villaruel (10th).  — MBG (FREEMAN)
