Ex-cop, 2 others charged for making bogus license

CEBU, Philippines —  A former policeman and two others are facing charges before the court for allegedly conspiring with each other in manufacturing fake driver’s license and official receipts of Land Transportation Office.

State Prosecutor Al Rey Ouano recommended the filing of criminal charges for swindling and possession of falsified documents against ex-policeman Jimmy Lao, Alecan Caya Abadines, and Michael Cabigas. The three opted to answer the charges directly in the court.

Agents of the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI)-7 arrested the suspects on June 4, 2018 during an entrapment operation in Liloan town following a complaint lodged by LTO-7 director Victor Emmanuel Caindec.

Caindec asked the assistance of the NBI on May 22, 2018 after receiving reports on the proliferation of fake driver’s license. The NBI immediately verified the information and found out to be true.

An undercover agent engaged the services of Abadines for a fake driver’s license for P4,000, resulting in his arrest. A follow-up operation also resulted in the arrest of Lao and Cabigas who were allegedly responsible for the manufacturing of the fake license and receipt. — FPL (FREEMAN)
