2 towns to host PWD centers

CEBU, Philippines — The municipalities of Ronda and San Remigio will be the host towns for the Persons With Disability (PWD) Rehabilitation and Therapeutic Center in the south and north, respectively, of the Province of Cebu.

The Provincial Board has already authorized Governor Hilario Davide III to execute and sign a memorandum of agreement by and between the Province of Cebu and the said municipalities through Ronda Mayor Mariano Blanco III and San Remigio Mayor Mariano Martinez.

Board Member Yolanda Daan, chairman of the PB committee on differently abled persons, sponsored the resolution granting the authority.

The Province of Cebu through the Provincial Social Welfare and Development Office will establish the center to make available and accessible the needed medical, health and wellness services to the PWDs both in the south and in the north.

Both mayors, Blanco and Martinez, have expressed their willingness to partner with the Province of Cebu in this project and to host and provide the location for the center.

The amount of P3 million each is earmarked for the project to cover for the costs of the construction of the center and for the provision of equipment, facilities and supplies.

Under the draft MOA, the PSWDO in coordination with the Provincial Engineering Office, will facilitate the design and construction of the center in the designated area.

Each municipality will select an area where the center will be constructed and provide list of services intended for the center and corresponding equipment, facilities and supplies.

The host municipality will also ensure that the facility is used for its purpose and allows the neighboring local government units to avail of the services provided by the center.

The host municipality will also utilize their own staff to perform its obligation as agreed without creating any employer-employee relationship between the Province of Cebu. (FREEMAN)
