Cebu grad ranked 2nd in medtech exam

CEBU, Philippines — A 21-year-old graduate from Cebu ranks second in the licensure examination for medical technologists (medtech) given on March 14 and 15.

Amabelle Son Marquez from Compostela town had a rating of 90.40, which is only 0.1 away from beating this year’s rank one.

She expressed that she feels honored and blessed to be among this year’s topnotchers.

“I feel so overwhelmed pud kay wala gyud mi nag-expect,” she said.

The newly licensed Medtech said that it was the exposure in the hospital which inspired her and her twin sister to study medical technology. She took and passed the exam with her twin sister Abigail.

Both graduated from Southwestern University PHINMA.

Amabelle graduated as Magna Cum Laude last May 2017. She was also an academic scholar when she was in college. She described that the exams and training she had during her university days played a great role in what she had achieved today.

Tips were also shared by Amabelle and Abigail on how to have effective review habits. Having a “study buddy” was one of the routines that she can advise to others who want to pass licensure examinations.

“You are each other’s alarm clock kung ang usa mo-start og tapol or tulog,” remarked Abigail.

She continued that her twin sister also had to read books on a daily basis while having a balance of fun. Enrolling in a review center, like the two did, was also an option one can take.

“Keep moving forward. Never let fear and disappointment  stop you from striving for what you want,” said Amabelle.

After getting their licenses, the two plan to hunt for jobs together in the country.

Amabelle also shared that she would love to be part of the Department of Health (DOH) so she can help the agency get back on track.

“Ganahan ko maka-help to regain the people’s trust back sa government kay I know they are doing their best,” she said.

She continued that she would also want to help develop vaccines for the currently incurable diseases as her legacy to the world. —MBG (FREEMAN)
