CEBU, Philippines — Patients in two government hospitals in the city will be visited by the holy image of Senior Sto. Niño before Christmas.

Sinulog Executive Committee chairperson Councilor David Tumulak said this is the first time for the image of the Holy Child to visit the Vicente Sotto Memorial Medical Center (VSMMC) and Cebu City Medical Center (CCMC) in line with the Sinulog celebration next month.

The Basilica Minore Del Santo Niño approved the request of the Cebu City government last week.

He said it is his initiative to bring the image of the Holy Child to the two hospitals to strengthen the faith of the sick.

The image will first visit VSMMC from December 17 to 19.

Within these days, there will be various activities including the holding of a Mass, vigil and veneration for the patient and procession of the image of the Holy Child to the different wards.

At noontime on December 19, the image will be turned over to the CCMC officials.

The image will stay there until December 21.  There will also be veneration of the holy image, a Mass and the image will also be brought to the different wards.

Tumulak said the activity will also be for the doctors and nurses who are God’s instruments in healing the sick.

The image of Senior Sto. Niño will also visit the Cebu City Jail and Operation Second Chance on January 9 to 11 next year.

From the Basilica Church, the image will first visit Operation Second Chance, the center for minors in conflict with the law.

At 5:30 p.m. on January 9, the image will be transferred to Cebu City Jail female dormitory where a Mass will be held.

At 7 p.m. on the same day, it will be transferred to the male dormitory and on January 10, there will be a Mass for the Bureau of Jail Management and Penology jail guards and officers.

Tumulak revealed that the image of the Holy Child will visit the Cebu Provincial Detention and Rehabilitation Center in April during the Kaplag celebration. (FREEMAN)
