Couple hacked to death in mountain barangay

CEBU, Philippines — A couple was hacked to death near their house in Sitio Katibis 1, Barangay Guba, Cebu City at around 7:30 in the evening on Wednesday.

The victims were identified as Edwin Bordadora, 37, a construction worker, and his wife Liesyl, 40, a vendor.

Based on investigation, the couple's children felt uneasy when their parents had not come home almost 10 p.m. Wednesday when they usually arrive around 7 p.m.

About the same time, the common-law wife of the victim's son was passing by Liesyl's store which is approximately 100 meters away from their house.

"Nahibung siya kay nagkatag na ang mga ibaligyaay," said Senior Police Officer 3 Winston Ybañez of Cebu City Police Office Homicide Section.

She immediately went home to tell the victim's son what had happened and they returned to the store together.

The two found a trail of blood and when they followed it, they discovered Liesyl's lifeless body.

"Niuli siya unya ila gibalik kauban sa anak sa biktima unya naa may dugo, ilang gisubay, didto nila nakit-an ang babae," he added.

Initially, the husband, Edwin, was suspected to have committed the crime as witness accounts reveal Liesyl was last seen with him.

However, Edwin's dead body was found the following morning, December 7, some 10 meters away from where Liesyl's body.

Ybañez said both bodies appeared to be mutilated by several hack wounds.

"Natangtang ang ubol-ubol, ang kamot hapit maputol (sa babae). Sa laki, ang iyang ulo sa wala, natangtang ang dunggan ug sa luyo naa'y agi sa tinigbasan dagko kaayo, sa ilong, sa agtang, daghan kaayo," he added.

Ybañez described the crime scene as a quiet and dark place, saying that he and his team are currently conducting a follow-up investigation to identify the suspect and the motive behind the killing. (FREEMAN)
