Road rage suspect ‘attempts to stab’ daughter in June

CEBU, Philippines — The road rage suspect who caught social media attention last week allegedly attempted to harm his own daughter in June this year.

Supt. Ryan Devara, chief of the Cebu City Police Office (CCPO) Investigation and Detection Management Branch (IDMB), said that a police record in Lilo-an police station showed that Edward Erasmo allegedly mauled and attempted to stab his 19-year-old daughter, a call center agent, reportedly because of money issue.

Devaras said Erasmo was arrested by members of Lilo-an police but the daughter did not pursue the complaint against her father.

Devaras also revealed that Erasmo has a reputation of moving from one place to another leaving behind unpaid rent.

“Problema dili mobayad sa abangan balhin-balhin lugar. Last time, Lilo-an area naka-register residence pero dugay na wa didto.Wa nibayad sa abangan,” Devaras said.  (We went to Lilo-an because it was his registered address but he was no longer there.  He left without paying the rent.)

Devaras said they are conducting a hot pursuit operation against Erasmo while waiting for the witness and the taxi driver to issue their respective affidavits.

A video and photo of Erasmo confronting a taxi driver on Pope John Paul  II Ave. went viral on Facebook last week.

It was posted by one Cai Cabancalan.  The video showed Erasmo got off a Toyota Innova and kicked the side window of a taxi.  Then he smashed the window with a brick wounding the cab driver.  He also threated to shoot the driver.

Erasmo allegedly got mad after the taxi driver overtook him on Pope John Paul II Ave.

Mayor Tomas Osmeña, who saw the post, offered a P10,000 reward for those who can give an information on the whereabouts of Erasmo.

Osmeña had said he received tips that Erasmo has flown to Manila.

Osmeña revealed that Erasmo does not come from a well off family.  The Innova that he was driving during the incident was rented and the owner even planned to file an estafa case as Erasmo failed to pay the rent. —/MBG (FREEMAN)
