Talisay City to buy patrol cars for cops

The Freeman

CEBU, Philippines — Talisay City government is set to purchase two patrol cars for the city police within the month.

Mayor Eduardo Gullas said the city is now canvassing the prices of vehicles.

"The cars are definitely coming this month,” he said, adding that the city has sufficient funds for the acquisition of the vehicles.

Lawyer Rudelyn Navarro, the city administrator, said each vehicle costs around P800,000.

Gullas earlier approved the request of the city’s chief of police to purchase additional vehicles that will be used in everyday police operations.

Gullas instructed the city's Budget Officer Edgar Mabunay to prioritize the appropriation of budget for the police vehicles.

At present, Talisay City police only have two patrol cars.

According to Police Superintendent Jason Villamater, chief of Talisay City police, they experience difficulties responding to alarms because of the lack of vehicles.

"Most of the time they need repairs because of wear and tear due to it being used 24/7 for police operations," he said earlier.

Gullas said he vowed to give his full support to the city police.

"Ako man gisaaran pag-report ni Villamater nga I'll give him the full support.  This is now my commitment because I know he will be good for the police department," he said, adding that he was grateful that Villamater was assigned in Talisay. (FREEMAN)
