51-year-old man shot dead in Barangay Ermita

CEBU, Philippines - While he was walking along the road, a 51-year- old man was shot dead by unidentified assailants onboard a motorcycle yesterday evening along Plaridel Street, Barangay Ermita, Cebu City.

Police identified the victim as Jose Edison Tatoy, a native of Danasan, Danao City.

At 6:30 p.m., the Cebu City Police Office received a call from a concerned citizen informing that there was a shooting incident in Ermita.

Acting on the report, Senior Police Officer 2 Rommel Bancog together with CCPO’s Homicide Section personnel proceeded to the crime scene.

During investigation, they learned that the victim had been walking when two assailants onboard a motorcycle blocked his way, pulled out a gun and shot him.

The victim succumbed to multiple gunshot wounds to different parts of his body leading to his instantaneous death.

“We saw the victim already lying on the ground lifeless with gunshot wounds in his chin, right ear, and chest,” Bancog said.

Edgar Racho, a resident of Barangay Ermita, narrated to the police that he heard three gunshots and saw the man lying on the street, lifeless.

Police recovered a homemade .45 caliber pistol and its three empty shells; one deformed slug; one magazine loaded with seven live bullets and 9 mm magazine loaded with three live bullets; a cellular phone; P219 cash; and a defective magazine of caliber.45.

The CCPO is conducting a follow-up operation to identify the assailants as well as determine the motive of the killing. (FREEMAN)
