Rebuilding of chapel in San Fernando starts

CEBU, Philippines - Reconstruction of the fire-hit San Vicente Ferrer Chapel in Pitalo, San Fernando town has already started.

This was confirmed by Pitalo Barangay Captain Ludy Iligan who ensured that the chapel will have a 6.5-meter pathway from the nearby houses to give space for responding firemen in case ano-ther fire incident occurs.

Iligan also said he wants the provincial government to provide assistance to the victims.

"Ang funds hinabang gikan sa mga tawo ug mga politiko," said Isagani Quisagan, a barangay tanod.

The entire heritage chapel and 13 surrounding houses were gutted by the fire the broke out on May 3.

It was reported that a parishioner, who was healed from cancer and lighted candles worth P5,000, caused the fire.

Aside from immediate relief assistance, the barangay of Pitalo also gave P22,000 worth of materials for the rebuilding of the houses. — (FREEMAN)
