32,000 license plates soon to arrive in Cebu

Mitchelle L. Palaubsanon - The Freeman

CEBU, Philippines - Around 32,000 motor vehicle license plates are expected to arrive in Cebu soon for those vehicles registered in 2015.

Land Transportation Office-7 director ArnelTancinco said the 32,000 license plates are part of the donation made by the Bureau of Customs.

"Naay moabot nga mga 32,000 plates. These plates para ni sa mga vehicles  kadtong narehistro pag 2015," said Tancinco.

To recall that in March, the BOC said that 11 container vans containing 600,000 license plates were declared abandoned after a private importer, JKG-PPI, failed to pay the P40 million Customs duties and taxes within the prescribed period.

The importer, JKG-PPI, appeared before the BOC and filed an appeal to lift the abandoned status of the shipped license plates but the appeal was later dismissed.

After the Department of Finance gave greenlight, BOC donated the said license plates to LTO to solve the backlog of license plates since January.

Meanwhile, Tancinco reiterated his call among car owners whose vehicles registered from January to April of last year and whose plate numbers ending in numbers 1 and 4 to get their license plate numbers.

"Daghan pa gyud ang wa ma claimed. Dugay na man ni naabot pero everyday may lang naay mokuha tag upat o tag lima ka license plates," said Tancinco.

Tancinco said of the more than 30,000 replacement plates that arrived last August, more than 20,000 were not yet claimed. — (FREEMAN)
