Woman buys fish using fake P1,000 bill, nabbed

Bryner L. Diaz - The Freeman

CEBU, Philippines - A woman was arrested after she bought fish using fake P1,000 bill, Friday at the public market in Poblacion, Alcantara, Cebu.

Suspect Aurora Misa alias Rhoda, 50, is now detained at Alcantara Police Station following her arrest.

Misa went to Alcantara Public Market on Friday afternoon and bought P200 worth of fish at the store of couple Juan and Leonila Yosores, both 65.

She handed P1,000 bill to Leonila for her payment and Leonila, in turn, handed over the bill to her husband to have to checked if the money was authentic.

Juan then placed the bill in a money detector and found out that it was fake.

Juan then immediately reported the matter to chief tanod Abel Pulgo.

They then arrested the suspect who was still at the store waiting for her change.

Senior Police Officer 1 Nestor Tonilon, an investigator of Alcantara Police, said Misa, a resident of V. Rama, Cebu City, went purposely to Alcantara to dispose the fake bills.

At the police station, police frisked the woman and found two more P1,000 bills, a P500, and a P200 bills suspected be fake too.

Tonilon said the woman admitted that she was bringing with her counterfeit bills which she allegedly bought from a supplier at Junquera Street in Cebu City.

The suspect, Tonilon said, could get a fake P500 for only P150 and then dispose these in the provinces where most establishments lack money detectors.

She apparently failed to notice though that the Yosores couple has a money detector.

The suspect will be charged for violation of Article 168 of the Revised Penal Code or for illegal possession and use of false treasury or bank notes and other instruments of credit.  (FREEMAN)
