DSWD-7 sets up adoption help desks at SM malls

CEBU, Philippines - In celebration of Adoption Consciousness week which ends today, a help desk was launched to provide basic information to those interested in adoption.

Installed inside SM City Cebu and Consolacion, the help desk is manned by Department of Social Welfare and Development-7 personnel who discuss legal adoption processes to couples and individuals wanted to adopt a child.

The weeklong celebration opened with a motorcade parade along the major thoroughfares of Cebu City that ended at Asilo dela Milagrosa.

The motorcade was participated by various child-caring agencies like the Albert Schweitzer Familienwerk Foundation, Inc. (ASFFI), Asilo dela Milagrosa, Children Shelter of Cebu, Children of Cebu Foundation, Inc. (Pari-an Drop in Center), Christ for Asia, Norfil Foundation Inc., My Bonita Home for Girls, Our Lady of Divine Providence Home of the Congregation of St. John the Baptist and DSWD’s Reception and Study Center for Children (RSCC).

“We hope that you continue to obey your foster parents, follow the rules of your caring institution and pray that a right family will consider you as their own,” said DSWD-7 Assistant Regional Director for Operations Shalaine Marie Lucero during the opening program.

The participating children showcased their talents in singing and dancing during the program.

Other activities for the celebration included a poster-making contest last February 20 at the Area Vocational Rehabilitation Center II (AVRC) in Labangon, Cebu City.

The weeklong celebration culminated with an educational tour to the Rainforest Park Cebu, Family Park and Museo Sugbo.

The theme for this year’s celebration is “Legal na Ampon Ako: Anak na Totoo” (A Child Finds Worth in Legal Adoption), which underscores that adopted children have also the same rights like those biological children.  (FREEMAN)
