CEBU, Philippines — This year’s “Mr & Ms Cebu Press Freedom Pageant” was more than a showcase of grace, wit and charm, as the event also featured the future-forward views of two Cebuano designers.

Staged at the Diamond Function Hall of the Cebu Business Hotel on September 14, the creations of designers Val Sandiego and Nars Salazar Ochia lent a contemporary Filipiniana tone to the annual beauty tilt – via festive and formalwear ensembles that that gave like a past-meets-the-present vibe.

The Mr & Ms Cebu Press Freedom pageant is now on its 15th year. Essentially a media practitioner-oriented pageant, it has served as the kickstarting activity to the “Cebu Press Freedom Week” since 2004 – the “Cebu Press Freedom Week” being a weeklong commemoration to press freedom in Cebu that’s widely ascribed to be the only event of its caliber in the country.
