“Code Red”

Yasunari Ramon Suarez Taguchi - The Freeman

CEBU, Philippines — A recent fashion presentation in Cebu delineated the bit of difference between “design” and “style.”  It demonstrated that just as design refers to the resulting form of that which was specifically made, style is adding a certain personal touch to what was made.

Titled “Code Red,” and staged at the Atrium of Robinsons Galleria Cebu on August 10, the fashion event somewhat differed from other fashion shows in the metro, as it had local designers present ensembles that were put together from the in-season collections of popular fast fashion brands. The pieces were not designed by the designers themselves.

There must be truth in the saying: “Fashion fades, style is eternal” (attributed to legendary fashion designer Yves Saint Laurent). Designers Mikhail Achas, Danny Booc, Edward Castro, Bree Esplanada and Axel Que worked with finished items and style these to come up with something novel for the show.

The designs of popular brands were given a touch of style by the individual designers in order to come up with standout combinations. In the end, “Code Red” proved that design can be made different – or even better – when styled properly.
