CEBU, Philippines — A native of Carcar City, SofronioYlanan Mendoza – more known by the pseudonym “SYM” – is famed for “neo cubist” artworks that tread on the classical characteristics of the cubist movement and the finer points of figurative art.
Co-founder of the Dimasalang Art Group in Manila in 1968, the artist – who is currently based in Canada – is known for seamlessly blending the motion-anchored aspects of cubism with the often-static qualities in traditional representational art.
He has had numerous group and solo exhibits in and outside of the Philippines, and is also a recipient of numerous awards and accolades.
