CEBU, Philippines - Elements of thematic contrast, neo-expressionism and abstract expressionism are the nucleus of an art exhibit that's currently ongoing at the 2nd level of the Ayala Center Cebu.
Picturesque landscapes and other works comprise the show titled "Obra Probinsya," featuring a selection of pieces by the members of the South West Art Club Cebu. The exhibiting organization is composed of visual artists from the southwestern part of Cebu province.
Presented by the Ayala Center Cebu and Cebu Artists Inc., "Obra Probinsya" is indeed an interesting showcase of the brilliant talents from the municipalities of the Cebu southwest. It is proof, too, that artists are "boundless spirits" that may venture into creative explorations, experimentations and discoveries - regardless of age, gender or place of origin.
Definitely, creative talent is not contained within city boundaries only, as "Obra Probinsya" would prove. But, at the same time, the presented pieces also depict how an artist's relationship with his hometown somewhat influences his creative oeuvre. In the end, an artist's "obra" is not his sole creation as he himself is shaped in part by his "probinsya."
"Obra Probinsya" is ongoing until December 12. The exhibit is open to the general public.
