CEBU, Philippines — He isn’t the grandson of Comedy King Dolphy for nothing.

Kapuso star Boy2 Quizon has been steeped in show business, but even with the onslaught of new talents, he’s managed to keep himself in the radar of casting directors, and even expanded his portfolio with jobs behind the camera.

The often-jolly actor has been a part of GMA Network’s long-running comedy show “Bubble Gang” since 2005. According to Boy2, he brings a light atmosphere on set in whatever show he’s in.

“It’s about how you handle yourself kapag nagtratrabaho na kayo. I make sure that every project na ginagawa ko laging masaya. I want everybody to be happy. Mas masarap kasi na kahit magpuyat tayo, at the end of the day, yung bonding ang pinaka-importante kasi sila youg nakakasama mo,” said Boy2 during a recent press conference in Cebu with his “StartUp Ph” co-stars Alden Richards, Royce Cabrera, and Jeric Gonzales.

Viewers will witness the goofiness of Boy2 in the upcoming remake of the hit Korean drama series that stars Bea Alonzo in her very first series since transferring to the Kapuso Network.

“StartUp Ph” will follow the life of Dani (Bea), an ambitious girl whose goal is to be the next Steve Jobs. In her journey to reaching her dream, she will find herself caught in a love triangle with Tristan (Alden) aka Good Boy, and Dave (Jeric).

Many are already excited to finally see how these actors will interpret the well-loved series in a Filipino way as it premieres on primetime this September.

Boy2 shared that his high-spirited ways seemed to have rubbed off on Jeric and Royce.

“Itong si Royce and Jeric parang sinasabi sa akin na dati tahimik lang yang mga yan. Ngayon grabe na. Sabi ko lang sa kanila, give me time, ako bahala,” he said.

In the series, the three play college classmates who later on become partners in Three Sons Tech. Among the three, Boy2 – who plays Wilson Espiritu – is the humorous one, while Jeric’s Dave is the smart guy, and Royce’s Jeff is the serious in the trio.

Grateful for being a part of this project, Boy2 shared how proud he is of the whole production team, as well as his co-stars for giving their all to give justice to their parts. This, he said, is what eases the pressure he feels from the high expectations that come with remaking a widely loved Korean original.

“Everything naman doon sa Korean version binigay naman sa cast pa lang. Naniniwala kami na iba rin yung ibibigay nito. The good thing about us also is yong sinasabi ni Alden na nabuo naming na bonding sa set, it comes out kasi. Iba pa rin yung synergy kapag may camaraderie sa set,” said Boy2.

Boy2 ensures that it will surely be as good as the original. “The Koreans kasi they’re really good with anything. Kahit music, ang galing nila sa music, so ito I’m quite sure kapag nabuo na and ilagay na lahat ng elements, pasok na pasok,” he further said.

If you ask Boy2, Filipinos are slowly mastering the techniques and style of the Koreans in terms of impressively integrating their culture in their shows.

“We’re slowly getting there and we’re happy na unti-unti naabot na namin magawa yun, and we know na aabot yung one day na kaya na rin natin gumawa ng ganoon,” he said.

As a fan of Korean content, specifically those under the thriller-suspense genre, Boy2 hopes that one day the Philippine television industry considers remaking Korean shows such as “Squid Game.”

The steady showbiz career of Boy2 is a product of his hard work and dedication to his craft. Aside from acting, he’s also ventured into directing via the film “I’m Ellenya L.” which starred Maris Racal and was nominated in the Best Movie category at the 2019 FAMAS Awards. He has also line-produced for films including “Rain” (2019), “Sid & Aya: Not a Love Story” (2018), “Camp Sawi” (2016), and was the executive producer of “Coming Soon” (2013).
