‘Magnetic’ Piolo - Lovi tandem in ‘Flower of Evil’

STAR CIRCUIT - Ricky L. Calderon - The Freeman

Ms. Lovi Poe became emotional at the media conference of “Flower of Evil” held Monday at Studio 8 of ABS-CBN. She said she was touched with the good experience of working with Piolo Pascual and the rest of the cast, some of whom she was working with for the first time.

Lovi said she had been wanting to work with Piolo for the longest time, and is thus very thankful that the actor is her first leading man in her first Kapamilya teleserye. Acting alongside Piolo is a tick off her bucket list.

The award-winning actress is likewise overwhelmed with the network’s support and for giving her a beautiful role in “Flower of Evil,” which is a very popular and award-winning Korean drama.

“Of course, when doing a new show, there is always excitement, plus I’m working with my mahal, Piolo. We have an amazing cast. And after seeing the first two episodes on Sunday night, my excitement doubled when I saw how good these are,” said Lovi.

“During the shoot, we were doing it one episode at a time. But after watching the first two episodes, I must say this is just the tip of the iceberg. We are just building up. There is so much more to look forward to.”

The cast also comprises of JC de Vera, Agot Isidro, Denise Laurel, Joem Bascon, Epy Quizon, Rita Avila, Jett Pangan, Pinky Amador, Joross Gamboa, Joko Diaz, and Edu Manzano, under the direction of Darnel Villaflor and Richard Arellano.

Direk Darnell praised his actors, most especially Piolo and Lovi, for giving their best when tackling difficult scenes. “I give it to my actors for their imagination in visualizing a scary scene. We are able to talk about it. It’s important that we are able to talk on the same wavelength regarding a scene so we can bring out what we need to accomplish,” he said.

While he has worked previously with some of the actors featured in “Flower of Evil,” Direk Darnell said there is still some bit of pressure, since they are doing a Pinoy adaptation of a popular Koreanovela. They are creating something from scratch but what inspires them to work harder is the energy given by the cast.

“We are all working hard to make a good project. We are putting our best foot forward to make content that is excellent and comparable to the best shows that ABS-CBN had been doing,” said Direk Darnell.

He added that their storyline kept the core of the story. Comparing it to a song, it’s an original being given a different interpretation by another singer.

“We kept the spine of the story for the benefit of all the K-drama fans. The story is intact and we also kept most of the iconic scenes, some of which you can see in the trailer. But we added a Pinoy flavor. Since Pinoy actors are the ones involved in the story, we have to give it Pinoy sensibilities.”

He also described the partnership of Piolo and Lovi as “magnetic.”

“It was so nice for them to build a beautiful relationship and that made the scenes work even better,” he said.

Since this is the first partnership of ABS-CBN with Viu, he said they really have to level up the quality of the series.

“Flower of Evil” is the first Viu original adaptation drama series from the Philippines to stream simultaneously in 16 markets – Philippines, Hong Kong, Singapore, Thailand, United Arab Emirates, Bahrain, Egypt, Indonesia, Jordan, Kuwait, Malaysia, Oman, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Myanmar, and South Africa – 48 hours before its television broadcast.

Watch “Flower of Evil” on Viu this June 23 and 24, and on Kapamilya Channel and A2Z on June 25 and 26.
