‘Cuddle Weather’ stars nail their roles

STAR CIRCUIT - Ricky Calderon - The Freeman

“Cuddle Weather” is love! The film, written and directed by Rod Marmol is a different kind of love story between two sex workers, Adela (Sue Ramirez) and Ram (RK Bagatsing). Both nailed their roles to a T. You can’t help but feel for Adela and Ram as their story unfolds before your eyes.

Sue is very good in her role as the tough cookie Adela, a sex worker of nine years who wants out of the trade. She may be tough but she longs for someone who will love and embrace her after a hard day’s work. She may seem tough and cunning but when alone that’s when you find out her longing for love.

RK is also perfect as Ram, the boy from the province duped by an illegal recruiter who had to ply the flesh trade to send money to his family. With his intense desire to be tutored by Adela, he eventually falls for the girl who doesn’t want to reciprocate his feelings. RK is very lovable as Ram.

“Cuddle Weather,” now showing in cinemas as part of Pista ng Pelikulang Pilipino, tells us that sex workers also have feelings and also dreams of taking themselves out of the rut they have fallen into. Being a sex worker is just a job that puts food on the table and pays the rent. When they finally decide they want out, you’d root for them and wish they find the happiness they both long for.

Alden Richards is confident that his new GMA show, “The Gift,” is a good follow-up to his blockbuster movie “Hello Love Goodbye.” The actor said the show has a touching story which he believes will appeal to viewers.

He plays a young man who goes blind and gains the gift of being able to see into a person’s past and future once he touches him or her.

GMA also allotted a big budget for the crowd scenes since “The Gift” is being shot in Divisoria. In the series directed by LA Madrilejos, Alden plays a fruit vendor in Divisoria. They wanted it to be authentic so they tried to shoot there but the success of Alden’s last movie made him so popular that a huge crowd shows up every taping day. Direk LA said Alden is very friendly to the fans, going out to them to greet them.

Since it is really difficult to control the crowd, GMA just put up a set in a warehouse in Murphy. But they employ a lot of extras.

The role of a blind guy is very challenging for Alden. It’s as challenging as his role in “Victor Magtanggol,” though the level of difficulty varies.

“The Gift” has a powerhouse cast. Playing Alden’s parents are Jean Garcia and TJ Trinidad. But TJ dies and Jean loses her young son in Quiapo where Elizabeth Oropesa, a fortuneteller, finds him and takes him home. Jo Berry becomes the surrogate mom of the kid who grows up as Alden.

Jean marries a politician (played by Christian Vasquez) and has her own kids with them, played by Martin del Rosario and newcomer Isabel Ortega.

Playing Alden’s friends in Divisoria are Mikee Quintos, Victor Anastacio and Mikoy Morales. Alden’s love interest is portrayed by Thia Thomalla. Also in the cast are Luz Valdez as Christian’s mother, Betong Sumaya, Divine Tetay and Rochelle Pangilinan as Christian’s secret lover.

We enjoyed watching “The Panti Sisters,” the new movie of director Jun Lana, starring Paolo Ballesteros, Martin del Rosario, and Christian Bables.

Cinema 7 of SM Megamall roared with laughter at the movie’s premiere last Tuesday which had Paolo, Martin and Christian walking the red carpet in their fabulous gowns.

We are sure that everyone who attended the premiere enjoyed “The Panti Sisters” because it is very entertaining. It boasts of good performances from lead stars to the supporting cast led by John Arcilla, Carmi Martin, Rosanna Roces, and Joross Gamboa.

The movie will not only make you laugh but will also touch your heart and make you cry. Paolo, Martin and Christian are excellent in their respective roles. They blended well and have good chemistry. There was no scene-stealing, just perfect chemistry.

Direk Jun also wrote a beautiful script that touches on family and acceptance. If you had fun with “Die Beautiful” and “Born Beautiful,” “The Panti Sisters” is another delightful movie.

“The Panti Sisters” is now showing in cinemas nationwide as part of Pista ng Pelikulang Pilipino 2019.
