Paolo Contis is finally the leading man

After a long while, Paolo Contis has finally been given a lead role. He plays Alessandra De Rossi’s leading man in “Through Night and Day,”  a film by Veronica Velasco (of “Last Supper No. 5” fame) which opens in cinemas nationwide today.

Paolo started his showbiz career as a child actor. At an early age, he already displayed his mettle in acting. While lead roles come few and far between, Paolo won acting awards for his role as a policeman in a filmfest movie where he won the Best Actor plum at the Luna Awards of the Film Academy of the Philippines.

He and Alessandra have been friends since they were young and both were excited to work together in “Through Night and Day,” a love story shot in Iceland. It is about a couple who went on a trip abroad before getting married. What happens during the trip will test their relationship and make them think if they should get married.

Aside from this movie, Paolo is feeling euphoric with the forthcoming 23rd anniversary presentation of “Bubble Gang,” the longest-running gag show on Philippine TV. While he is not an original cast member, he considers being a part of “Bubble Gang” an important part of his career, more so as the new members of the cast look up to him as one of the pillars of the program.

At the presscon of the show’s 23rd anniversary special, Paolo said he always looks forward to Monday because that is their scheduled taping day. Reporting for taping is no longer a job but joyful bonding time with the rest of the cast members. “We are one big, happy family. Our bonding time is during dinner where we eat together and share ideas with each other,” said Paolo.

Wency Cornejo of After Image never thought the 90s Live Concert they did at The Theater at Solaire will be a big hit. “We never imagined our reunion concert with the different bands of the 90s will attract so much attention. We had a full house of a cheering and dancing crowd. That’s why when we were approached to do a repeat, we readily agreed,” said the main man of After Image.

Solaire is bringing back the bands of the 90s that we love via “90s Overload,” to be staged at The Theater at Solaire on Saturday, Nov. 17.

The concert will bring together the most iconic band voices of the 90s namely Jek Manuel of IAXE Band, Cookie Chua of Color it Red, Lei Bautista of Prettier Than Pink, Paco Arespacochaga of Introvoys, Perf De Castro of Rivermaya, Glenn Jacinto of Teeth, Wency Cornejo of After Image, Myra Ruaro of Put3ska, Naldy Padilla of Orient Pearl, Dodong Cruz of The Youth, Stephen Lu of Rizal Underfground of Noel Palomo ng Siakol.

Each of these bands has a signature song which became the anthem of the 90s. We must admit that 90s music from the bands brought a resurgence in the popularity of OPM. Most of the hits that we still hear today came from the bands of the 90s era. So let’s take a walk down memory lane on Saturday and listen to the music anew.

The bands joining “90s Overload” agreed to be part of the concert so they can bond again with their friends whom they used to do gigs with.

“Karamihan sa mga bands na kasali sa ‘90s Overload’ ay nakasama namin sa mga gigs noong 1990s kaya reunion din ang concert na ito para sa aming lahat,” said Wency. He is inviting everyone to watch the show at Solaire since the concert is going to be fun.

If there is one movie that you should not miss, it’s “Kung Paano Siya Nawala” from TBA Studios. which stars JM De Guzman and Rhian Ramos.

This is a love story directed by Joel Ruiz which tells of Lio (JM), a quiet and withdrawn young man who finds it difficult to connect with people due to his affliction: face blindness, a cognitive disorder characterized by an inability to recognize faces. But the inhibited Lio finds himself opening up to the world when he falls in love with Shana (Rhian), a beautiful spirit who has secrets of her own.

The movie had a preview yesterday at Cinema 76 in Anonas, Quezon City attended by Rhian who said she fell in love with the script when their director told her about it that she agreed to produce it.

“I don’t have an idea how the audience will accept our movie but I love it and I am proud of it,” said Rhian. She added that she is interested to produce another film if she finds another script as good as “Kung Paano

Siya Nawala.”

The movie boasts of superb acting from Rhian and JM. They act so naturally that you will believe they are really a couple. There is palpable chemistry and sexual tension. JM never looked so handsome onscreen and Rhian looked so beautiful even without makeup.

Aside from the acting, it is the script that made the movie work. Do watch it as it opens today in cinemas nationwide.
