Phl infra program draws interest of Swedish firms

CEBU, Philippines — The Philippine government’s build-build-build program has caught the strong interest among Swedish companies to take part of the country’s ambitious infrastructure plan under the Duterte administration.

Ambassador of Sweden to the Philippines Herald Fries revealed in an interview that there are already a number of Swedish companies engaged in infrastructure now in talks with different government agencies here, and forging partnerships with private sector expressing interest to be part of the build-build-build program.

Fries was in Cebu Monday to grace the Embassy of Sweden in Manila’s first fashion exhibition to promote awareness of sustainable fashion manufacturing in partnership with SM City Cebu.

Companies from Sweden, such as those makers of environment friendly urban transport system, telecommunications, port and airport building, construction, among others are now taking their move to strike a deal with different infrastructure projects lined up under the build-build-build program.

The Ambassador emphasized the Swedes’ vigorous stance on efficiency, latest high technology adaption that would help the Philippines build sustainable infrastructure.

While Duterte’s build-build-build program is considered in the early stage, Fries hopes that more Swede’s companies will be able to help the fulfillment of one of the ambitious infrastructure plans implemented by the Philippines in recent years.

The build-build-build program is an infrastructure plan, which is part of “DuterteNomics” strategy. It aims to usher in the "Golden Age of Infrastructure". The goals of the program are to reduce poverty, encourage economic growth and reduce congestion in Metro Manila. (FREEMAN)
