Speaking at the first Philippine Forestry Development Forum hosted at the Asian Development Bank (ADB) recently, Shamshad Akhtar, director general of ADB’s Southeast Asia Department said the Philippines faces an enormous challenge in maintaining and preserving its natural resources, including forests.

During yesterday’s Philippine Forestry Development Forum, Executive Secretary Eduardo R. Ermita announced  that the government, through the Department of Environment and Natural Resources, is drafting an omnibus forestry policy aimed at compiling existing forestry policies and eventually producing a relevant single enhanced policy.
