The Japanese term "bonsai" literally means "container" or "tray gardening." It is used to denote the miniaturization of trees and plants by way of confinement and pruning of the roots and shoots. Bonsai gardening uses many tools such as wires for training the plant and special cutters to prune roots and shoots. Bonsai gardening is an art form and there are many different styles of bonsai.
