                    [Summary] => The People’s Credit and Finance Corp. (PCFC) nationwide network of partner-conduits provided microfinance services to 312,129 poor individuals, mostly women from July 2001 to June 2002.


PCFC president and chief executive officer Iluminada L.E. Cabigas reported that 621,349 poor borrowers have already availed of microfinance loans amounting to P3.6 billion from the start of operations of PCFC in mid 1996 up to the end of June, 2002.

                    [Summary] => The poverty incidence in the Philippines has grown from 31.8 percent in 1997 to a record 34.20 percent at the start of the year, according to the National Anti Poverty Commission (NAPC), the Cabinet-level committee tasked by the Arroyo administration for poverty alleviation.


That can be translated into at least 5.2 Filipino households living below or straddling the poverty line. Of these number, only an estimated 400,000 households have been able to access financial assistance to cope with the difficult times.
