[Title] => Napocor cuts down on use of diesel-fired power plants
[Summary] => The National Power Corporation recently announced that it is reducing further the amount of utilization of its oil-fired power plants, in the wake of the continuing rise of crude oil prices in the world market.

Napocor president Cyril del Callar said the generation of these diesel power plants will be slashed from 8.63 percent last year to 6.04 percent this year.

In Cebu, however, the operation of this type of plants will continue due to lack of power supply to meet the rising demand.

In situations where there is a power shortage in the grid, VECO will not be part of a power curtailment scheme, Ethel Natera, senior supervisor of VECO’s community relations department, said.

Moses Red, corporate staff specialist of the National Power Corp. (Napocor), told The Freeman that most of the grids’ five power generators have gone off-line for repairs.

Aside from this, the Panay-based Power Barge 102, which generates 24 megawatts, will be transferred to Mindanao by May, leaving the CNP grid without at least 101 MW.
