One of the more interesting sidelights in our discussions at the NVM Gonzalez Centennial Workshop in Mindoro a couple of weeks ago had to do with the seemingly small issue of whether or not to italicize Filipino and other non-English words in an English text.

Only our academic calendar has given us our own tweak on the term "Octoberian," that is, someone who graduates from college after the first semester. That makes our grad either a slowpoke who had to add half-a-year of study (unless he/she entered college on the second sem), or an adelantado of a geek who hurried up the full-calendared course.
