Cases of mental illness in the country are on the rise with the increase in population, but the Filipinos’ faith in God and sense of humor help them cope with situations that can lead to insanity, psychiatrists said yesterday.


Dr. Noel Reyes, a psychiatrist at the National Center for Mental Health (NCMH) in Mandaluyong City, said one of the most common brain diseases among Filipinos is schizophrenia, which afflicts one percent of the total population.

                    [Summary] => The National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) said  it was set to submit to the Department of Justice (DOJ) an assessment report on the mental state of Ester Bailey, the eldest sister of slain Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) Assistant Secretary Alicia Ramos on Monday. 


Regional Director Edmund Arugay, of the NBI-National Capital Region (NCR), said they have instructed Dr. Romel Papa, head of the agency’s Neuro Psychiatric Division (NPD), to conduct an examination on the 65-year-old Bailey, who has been confined at the St. Claire Medical Center in Makati City.
