                    [Summary] => The Bureau of Internal Revenue (BIR) said yesterday that the courts will be more convinced to speed up cases against some cigarette companies if the "inequitous differential treatment" of existing brands versus new brands can be rectified by Congress.


This was the response of BIR Commissioner Guillermo Parayno Jr. to a challenge aired by some House members that the BIR should collect taxes first due from big companies like La Suerte Cigar and Cigarette Factory before pushing for a new excise tax law.

                    [Summary] => British American Tobacco Philippines company is seeking a temporary restraining order (TRO) against the implementation of a new Bureau of Internal Revenue Regulation (BIR-RR) raising the excise tax on cigarettes and tobacco products.


James dela Vega, corporate counsel and corporate affairs manager of BAT Phils., said they are filling the appropriate legal action against the Department of Finance (DOF) and the BIR for its allegedly "discriminatory" revenue regulation.


"We will question the issuance of the RR," Dela Vega said.
