From his father’s successful business selling a selection of eastern seashells, various trinkets, and other Victorian artifacts in London, British Trader Marcus Samuel grew up exposed in trading. Armed with an entrepreneurial spirit, he soon had an expansive vision for global trade. Without cash or credit, he left for London to connect with his father’s agents in the Far East, traveled back and forth, and began trading in Japanese coal, tea, fibers, cereals, and metals.
