Record-setting cyclist Honorica gains major backing
Zedric Ivan Honorica in conversation with foodpanda executives during his sponsorship meeting.

MANILA, Philippines — Rising Filipino cyclist Zedric Ivan Honorica, a former food-delivery rider and working student who clocked 10.865 seconds in the men’s elite flying 200-meter sprint — setting a new Philippine record and breaking a 20-year mark — is getting much-need support.

And comes from the same food-delivery firm he used to work at.

Honorica achieved his record-setting performance using a modest bike setup, far from the high-end equipment used by many of his international competitors, making the feat even more remarkable. He used his delivery earnings to upgrade his bike — the same one he used to compete and break a long-standing national record.

After his breakout moment, foodpanda reached out to offer support for his training and competitive journey, reinforcing its commitment to empowering riders beyond the platform. The support package, consisting of financial assistance, one year’s worth of pandamart groceries, and cycling gear and equipment, is designed to help him focus on training and future competitions and continue building on his momentum.

“Zedric’s story is a powerful example of the talent and determination within our rider community. At foodpanda, we create opportunities for our Ka-panda riders to go beyond the road and pursue what matters most.” said Patricia Jacinto, growth and marketing director at foodpanda Philippines. “We’re excited for what more he can accomplish with upgraded equipment and continuous training.”

Following his breakthrough, Honorica is focused on improving for international competitions and aiming for medals.

“Being a working student-athlete isn’t easy, so support like this means a lot. I appreciate that foodpanda values riders like us who are also chasing bigger goals. This will help me focus more on training and give my best in the competitions ahead,” Honorica shared.

He is set to join more road races as part of his training, with the goal of competing internationally and representing the Philippines again, including the Southeast Asian Games.
