Karl Eldrew strikes gold in Antalya

MANILA, Philippines — Karl Eldrew Yulo, younger brother of Olympic two-gold winner Carlos, announced his arrival in gymnastics seniors competition with a gold-medal feat in the FIG Artistic Gymnastics World Cup Series in Antalya, Turkey.
The 18-year-old Yulo put on an electrifying show and claimed the floor exercise gold, a year after a double-bronze juggernaut in the World Juniors Championship at home.
He drew a score of 14.100, besting the field that included Ireland’s Eamon Montgomery and Spain’s Raydarley Zapata, who ended up with the silver and bronze with 13.833 and 13.333, respectively.
It was Yulo’s first mint in the seniors stage. Slowly, he has taken the first steps in his hope to team up with brother in ruling the world – and probably the Olympics in Los Angeles in 2028.
Yulo made his seniors’ debut in the opening leg in Baku, Azerbaijan a week ago, qualifying in the finals of horizontal bar and floor exercise but falling short of a podium finish.
But he’s quick to learn, zooming to glory a few days later in Turkey.
