Cignal, Nxled in clash of titans

MANILA, Philippines — Cignal eyes to keep its grip on the lead while Nxled seeks to snatch it when they slug it out today in an early clash of the PVL All Filipino Conference titans at the Ynares Sports Center in Antipolo.

The Supers Spikers and the Chameleons will come into their much-anticipated 6:30 p.m. showdown unscathed with the former winning their first three matches and the latter their first two.

And it could well be a battle of will and desire in a face-off that could provide a hint on who’s the real contender and the pretender.

Galeries Tower (1-1) and Farm Fresh (0-2), meanwhile, collide in the 4 p.m. curtain-raiser.

Both Cignal and Nxled are looking like teams to beat with the Manny V. Pangilinan franchise on fire with its old guns and chemistry, and the latter on a roll with its plethora of new recruits headed by Brooke Van Sickle, MJ Phillips and Myla Pablo among others.

“We just have to train and work harder if we want to have a shot at contending this conference,” said Cignal coach Shaq delos Santos.

For Nxled mentor Ettore Guidetti, every game is a learning experience.

“Our goal is to improve every day and every game,” he said.

The Super Spikers are a mean team with their own shares of stars in Alas Pilipinas standout Vanessa Gandler and PVL on Tour MVP Erika Santos.
