20th Sta. Lucia Golf Tour flies to Da Nang

MANILA, Philippines —  Da Nang in Vietnam will be the neutral ground for the 11 Sta. Lucia golf clubs slugging it out for championship in celebration of the 20th edition of the Sta. Lucia Golf Tour.

Orchard defends its title in 36 holes of stroke play on April 24 and 25, with the first round set at Ba Na Hills Golf Club and the second at the Legend Danang Golf Resort Nicklaus course.

Lakewood will try to reclaim the title won in 2024, with Eagle Ridge, Caliraya Springs, Beverly Place, Pinewoods, Summit Point, Alta Vista, Palos Verdes, South Pacific and Royale Tagaytay also there, seeking to dethrone Orchard.

“The Sta. Lucia Golf Tour is heading to Asia once more with the staging of the 20th anniversary tournament at Da Nang. Back in 2012, the SLGT had an event in Thailand and was very successful. Since then, there’s been an intense clamor to go international once more” said tournament director Tom Clemente III during the event launch Wednesday at Orchard.

“Our chairman, Mr. Vicente Santos, said why don’t we come up with something big and memorable this year? Initially we thought of going to the US but later decided on Da Nang, which is actually a hot place to go to right now,” Clemente added.

Each of the 11 clubs is allotted at least 10 slots on a first-come first-served basis, with individual competitions in regular division, two senior categories and ladies.

The entry fee for golf, hotel, meals, and transfers is P41,940 exclusive of plane fare. Official airline partner Philippine Airlines is giving a 15-percent discount for participants, and is raffling off a round-trip business class ticket to Danang.

The other major sponsors are Davies Paints, Xiaomi Philippines, K&G, and Sotogrande Hotel and Resort Group. Express Miles Travel and Tours is the official travel agency.
