MANILA, Philippines — “10 out of 10.”
That was how FIVB president Fabio Azevedo graded the Philippines’ hosting of the FIVB Men’s Volleyball World Championship.
“Filipinos love the sport. Each and every one of the athletes and entourage are extremely happy,” said Azevedo. “From the beginning, our athletes are 100 percent satisfied.”
It was a world-class hosting as Filipinos banded together – from the Philippine National Volleyball Federation to the national government, the Philippine Sports Commission, private sector and the fans.
It’s no secret that the country is capable of hosting massive events like this one. The Philippines also successfully co-hosted the FIBA World Cup two years ago.
And Azevedo was blown away by the country’s hosting.
“It is an Olympic international standard. So I would give it 10 out of 10,” said the 54-year-old Brazilian, who was elected FIVB president last year.
