MANILA, Philippines — The Philippines could end a long gold medal drought in chess in the Southeast Asian Games in an event that the Filipinos are unfamiliar with – Makruk or Thai chess.

This exciting possibility surfaced after the country struck gold in both the individual and team events of the discipline in the Pre-SEA Games tournament held in Singapore Thursday.
