Cavitex regroups in PBA 3x3

MANILA, Philippines — Cavitex recovered from an early loss, sweeping its next two pool games to advance to the PBA 3x3 Season 3 First Conference Leg 2 quarterfinals yesterday at the Ayala Malls Circuit.
After fumbling versus opening opponent Purefoods, 17-20, the Braves quickly revived their bid and hammered out crucial wins over Blackwater, 20-15, and Terrafirma, 20-18, in Pool C play.
At 2-1, Jorey Napoles, Tonino Gonzaga, Marion Magat and Ken Ighalo assured Cavitex of No. 1 or 2 seeding in the KO rounds pending the result of today’s eliminations windup between the Titans (1-1) and the Bossing (1-1).
Leg 2 runner-up San Miguel Beer and Wilcon Depot, meanwhile, put a lock on the first two quarters berths in Pool B after logging identical 2-1 records.
Meanwhile, the University of Santo Tomas officially got bona fide alumnus Alfrancis Chua on board, signaling a new era in the Growling Tigers’ mission of reclaiming lost glory in the UAAP.
Chua, the San Miguel Corp. sports director, was appointed the Special Assistant to the Rector for Sports, the same role he had in Letran when the Knights completed a three-peat in the NCAA.
Also the author behind SMC’s dominance in the PBA, Chua yesterday paid a courtesy call to UST Rector Fr. Richard Ang, OP, Institute of Physical Education and Athletics (IPEA) director Fr. Rodel Cansancio, OP, and the Growling Tigers team as they rev up for UAAP Season 86.
“I’m here to fully support UST. This is my school, dito ako lumaki, mahal ko ang school na ito,” said Chua, who has the blessing of SMC president and CEO Ramon S. Ang to support the UST men’s basketball program with Petron as major sponsor.
