Greenies set up title duel with Squires

Joey Villar - The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines — LSGH With unwavering resolve, La Salle Greenhills outlasted San Beda in an epic 89-85 victory to set up a title showdown with Letran in NCAA juniors basketball yesterday at the San Andres Sports Complex.

The Greenies and Cubs battled through deadlocks after deadlocks and lead changes after lead changes but it was the latter who hung tough to the finish to claim the last seat in the best-of-three finals.

LSGH will face off with No. 1 Letran, which hurdled Malayan, 83-78, in their own Final Four showdown.

“Sinasabi ko sa kanila walang bibitaw,” said LSGH coach Renren Ritualo. “Naging sakit kasi namin, we’re up but we became reluctant. Good thing we corrected them.”

LSGH is figuring in the NCAA finals for the first time since a losing finals stint versus Mapua in 2018.

Big boys Manuel Pablo and Seven Gagate were LSGH’s battering rams with the former bulldozing his way to 25 points, 19 rebounds and two blocks and the latter to 20 points, nine boards and four swats.

Skipper Santi Romero and James Ison scored 12 points each while Rod Alian put in 11.
