2020-21 MPBL season scrapped

John Bryan Ulanday - The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines — The Chooks-to-Go Maharlika Pilipinas Basketball League (MPBL) has moved its fourth season to 2021, effectively scrapping its 2020-21 edition.

From a mere indefinite suspension in the hope of still opening later this year, the season was pushed all the way to next year due to the uncertainties brought by the COVID-19 pandemic.

“The 2020-21 MPBL Season is hereby suspended, and we will start our next season on June 12, 2021,” said commissioner Kenneth Duremdes in a memo.

The continuous restriction on group and contact sports under general community quarantine and the current situation of TV partner ABS-CBN factored in MPBL’s decision.
