MANILA, Philippines — University of Batangas took the solo lead with an 81-72 win over Technological Institute of the Philippines (TIP) while defending champion Diliman College issued a strong warning in the PG Flex Linoleum-Universities and Colleges Basketball League Monday at the Olivarez College gym in Parañaque City.
The UB Brahmans started strong, wavered a bit in the second quarter before coming up with offensive spurts in the third en route to their second win in as many games.
UB’s victory was a fitting follow up to its 92-80 win over Philippine Christian University-Dasmariñas in the opener last Thursday.
The Diliman Blue Dragons, on the other hand, leaned on a fiery start to demolish the PCU-Dasmariñas Dolphins, 97-69, with Johnnel Rey Bauzon exploding for 29 points.
Four other Diliman players scored nine points or more in a big show of force.
Lyceum-Batangas likewise opened its campaign on winning note by crushing National College of Business and Arts, 88-62, in the first game.
