Denver's Morris banking on team chemistry vs West powerhouses

MANILA, Philippines — The NBA offseason has been a busy one with major trades practically transforming the league's landscape.

The already tough Western Conference will get even more difficult with All-Star duos like the Los Angeles Clippers’ Paul George and Kawhi Leonard, Anthony Davis and LeBron James of the Lakers, and Houston’s James Harden and Russell Westbrook.

But Monte Morris of the Denver Nuggets knows his team has at least one advantage against these powerhouse players: chemistry.

"We got chemistry. We know what we got to do. These teams look good on paper, [but] you know, you still gotta figure it out," Morris told the Philippine media on Wednesday.

"We know what we're gonna get from every guy on our roster. We've been there before," he said.

The Nuggets finished the 2018-2019 NBA regular season with a 54-28 record, good enough for the second spot in the Western Conference. They also reached the playoffs, only to fall against the Portland Trail Blazers in the conference semifinals.

Morris, who averaged 10.4 points last season, believes that Denver will still be a contender in the 2019-2020 season.

"It's gonna be tough, going up against those LA teams, Portland... [but] chemistry goes a long way in this league," he said.

Morris is in the country for the NBA 3x Philippines events this weekend.
