MANILA, Philippines — Jeo Ambohot came through with huge plays including a crucial follow-up in overtime as Letran edged Perpetual Help, 82-80, yesterday for its third straight victory in the 95th NCAA basketball tournament at the Flying V Centre in San Juan.

Trailing by a point at 79-80 with 12.4 seconds to go, the 6-6 Ambohot plucked the rebound off a miss by teammate Ato Ular and then scored the putback that gave the Knights the lead for good as the Altas couldn’t score on their next two possessions.

Edgar Charcos turned the ball over on the next play and Bonbon Batiller responded by splitting his charities for the final count.

Jielo Razon muffed a potential game-tying layup shortly before the final buzzer.

It was Letran’s third win in row after dropping its opening-day assignment versus Lyceum of the Philippines U.

And it was largely because of Ambohot, who came up big when his team needed it most and finished with nine points, 13 rebounds and two blocks.

“He was just big for us in this game,” said Letran coach Bonnie Tan of Ambohot.

Perpetual Help slipped to its second straight loss against a win.

Meanwhile, Lyceum bounced back from its heartbreaking defeat to Emilio Aguinaldo College the last time out,  trouncing Mapua, 79-71, to improve to 2-1.

In the third game, Jose Rizal edged Arellano, 80-77, for its first win.
